On saturday Jan. 21st we lost a huge part of our community here on the smith river. Becky Kinkade of the Hiouchi cafe passed away due to complications from a massive stroke. Becky was a big part of the fishing community here. She fed the fisherman hot meals in the mornings and would send them off with the most awesome sack lunches you've ever seen. She would fondly greet them all in the morning, show them the latest fishing pictures and throw in a story or a joke. Becky loved fishing season the best because the fisherman were always so happy to be here. Becky put her heart and soul into the cafe and enjoyed what she did. If someone came in off the street and needed a bite to eat, but did not have any money, Becky would feed them, no questions asked. As her husband Donald said " Becky wore her heart on her sleeve " and she did. We will all miss her, she was a beautiful woman. We love you Becky!

Current Report: Hello fisherman, The Smith river level at Jed Smith is 14.7 ft. Locally here in Gasquet we received just over 7 inches of rain from this latest storm, which obviously blew out the river. We have not been able to fish today or yeasterday, but the river should be back in shape in a day or two depending on mother nature. Prior to this storm we have been catching both salmon and steelhead. There were chrome bright salmon caught the day before the river went out. We should continue to see a mixed bag of salmon and steelhead through mid month or so. To book your trip call toll free 866-875-9500 or e-mail.

Current Report: Hello fisherman, We had a great holiday weekend on the Klamath river. I fished Ted & Kate of Guerneville. We caught fish every day. Our best day was saturday, landing the highest number of fish that day, and Kate nailing the biggest salmon of the day which weighed between 18 - 20 lbs. The river was pretty busy for the holiday. The water volume and temperature has been much improved. It has been a great salmon and steelhead season so far, and will continue through the end of the season. I still have just a few days open for the Klamath river run. Don't miss out! We are also starting to book the salmon and steelhead run for the Smith river. The Smith river opened this weekend to salmon and steelhead fishing. There are a few anglers at the mouth trying their luck and they are catching a few salmon with the out going tides. Call early to book the best dates! You can reach me toll free at 866-875-9500 or e-mail.

Current Report: Hello fisherman, Steelhead season is in full swing on the lower Klamath river. The fishing started out red hot, but has slowed in the last few days due to the low water and the warm temerature of the water which is at 73 degrees. The fish are there but they are not biting like they were. They need to release more water into the river to bring up the level and temerature, this will help the bite. Blue creek on down has been the best bet. There are alot of fly fisherman out now for the steelhead. There are a few salmon slipping up river, but most of them are in the estuary. The indians have been doing good netting salmon at the estuary, so it looks to be a great salmon season. We have a couple of prime weekend dates still open in September for salmon fishing in the jet boat on the Klamath. We have open Sept. 17,18, & 19 which is a friday, saturday, sunday, and Sept.25 & 26 a saturday and sunday. I also have sept. 7,8,9, & 10 open. September is booking up quickly so don't wait to long! Just a little reminder, the Smith river fishing is right around the corner, book early for the best dates! This season we will be allowed to fish with barbed hooks and the season wil extend through the end of April. We can also start using bait October 1st.

The bite seems to be over by 8 - 8:30 a.m. I fished John & Kyle Davis of Reno on 6/9, 6/10, & 6/11, enjoy those fish! On 6/12 & 6/13 I fished Joe Bowman, Hal, & Stacey. Thank you to everyone who fished with me this last week and enjoy those good eating springers!
The legendary Gary "Big Dog" Lindstrom passed away on June 5th due to his battle with skin cancer. The "Big Dog" was one of the first to guide on the Smith river, he also guided on the Kenai river in Alaska during the summer months where he also had a lodge. Gary gave many of the guides here on the Smith river their start. We owe alot of respect to him and he will be sorely missed by many. We love you Bev and thank you for being such a huge part of our lives also.
